Employment Guidance Support

Employment and Careers guidance is an important element of our courses. Our ‘Guidance Worker’ works with women on an individual and group work basis before and during the course.

The Guidance Worker meets all women before they join our courses to discuss their future plans and to make sure that our course meets their needs.

Guidance sessions on the courses can cover a variety of topics including:

Guidance Sessions Topics
Choosing a career
Interview skills
Completing application forms and CV’s for job vacancies
Advice on training courses available
Qualifications/training required for different careers
Information on local employers and job opportunities
Information on courses running in the community
Advice on college/university courses
Funding sources for further study

We also use the ‘Adult Directions’ computer package, which can help women come up with careers ideas if they are unsure about what they want to do.

For some instant online Guidance support why not try the Careers Scotland link or some of the links on the useful links page.

Post Course Guidance Support

What happens after the courses?
Yes, there is life after the WOW courses finish! And now we have extra help available so you can continue to move on. WOW has a post-course support worker who is here to support trainees once the courses finish. You can contact Sandra at the WOW office, from Monday to Thursday .

How do I get support?
When a course finishes it can be hard to maintain motivation and keep going with your plans for the future, but now you can get the help you need to do this.

Women Onto Work staff are holding monthly meetings for former trainees in all the areas. Meetings are open to all women who have completed a WOW course and feel they would benefit from continued follow-up. Sometimes there is a speaker, and if anyone has any ideas for this, please get in touch.

Our post course support worker is also available for one-to one support, help with updating CVs and filling in application forms, visiting colleges and finding childcare.

We hope you take advantage of this opportunity to meet up with friends from the course, and to get advice and help on returning to work, college, volunteering or training. Childcare is available for group meetings.
